Thanks to all of the teachers and student teachers who entered our competition with O’Brien Press for a copy of “The Story of Ireland” by Brendan O’Brien. It was a great success with 121 entries. Many thanks to O’Brien Press for sponsoring the prizes. Most of you found the questions easy, but just to confirm, the answers were:
- Gráinne Mhaol’s real name – Grace O’ Malley
- Newgrange is in Co. Meath
- The Titanic sank on April 14th, 1912
- The GAA was started in Hayes Hotel, Thurles in 1884
- The GPO was the HQ of the Easter 1916 Rising
The draw for the prizewinners took place after the 5pm deadline on Twitter. Pamela O’ Brien (@pamelaaobrien on Twitter), maths lecturer in LIT Tipperary randomly selected five numbers between 2 and 122. The numbers she selected were 46, 101, 59, 17, 96. The winners of the five books were:
