Some pupils with emotional/behavioural problems and/or pupils on the autism spectrum may benefit from some “time out” in a calm corner of the classroom, perhaps due to being overwhelmed by a sensory input. This “Calm Corner” could just be a corner of the room with some cushions, a book to read or a fidget toy. A pupil can be given a limited number of tokens to use during the day which can be used to indicate to the teacher the need for some “time out”.
