As you may know, the new Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’ Sullivan TD, has agreed to be a special guest in the weekly #EdChatIE Twitter chat on this Monday evening, September 29th. The Twitter chat will take more of a “question and answer” format on the night. Fred Boss of the NCCA is the organiser of the weekly education chats where educators from all three levels in Ireland take part in topical discussions on educational issues.
During the week, teachers were asked to submit suggestions for topics to discuss with the Minister on Monday night. More than thirty topic suggestions were put to a public vote and the top four will be discussed for fifteen minutes each on the night. The topics for discussion are:
- Third Level Maintenance Grant and its protection in the upcoming budget (8:30 – 8:45pm)
- Are the government going to take any measures to assist the numbers of unemployed teachers? (8:45 – 9:00pm)
- Junior Cycle Reform – opportunities to progress reform, revised time lines, consideration of union proposals (9:00 – 9:15pm)
- Class size – especially in the Infant Classes (9:15 – 9:30pm)
This is a great opportunity for teachers to engage with the new Minister and she deserves praise for agreeing to take part in the discussion. You can follow the Minister on Twitter: @JanOSullivanTD
