This book is about a boy called Danny and his dog Keeno. They both are on a walk in the park with his Grandad and his baby sister Suzie. Grandad is telling them about how some animals grow thick woolly coats and hibernate.
This gets Danny thinking about his dog Keeno being cold. So he tried to take baby Suzie’s hat for Keeno but that ended up a tree. Grandad gets the hat down from the tree but then it falls in mud.
When they go home Granny is giving out how cold it is. Danny thinks she looks like a hedgehog with her blue cardigan on her and he asks her why she doesn’t hibernate.
Danny wants his mum to knit something for Keeno to keep him warm but she will not. So Danny takes baby Suzie’s hat and gloves and also takes Granny’s bed socks for him. He thinks Keeno should hibernate so he gets some dog food and puts him to bed.
Mum thinks Grandad and Granny should stay the night as it’s getting very icy outside. Danny is shocked at this as Keeno is in their room. So he runs upstairs to find a big mess. Granny comes in behind Danny and steps in dog food and then right at that moment Keeno goes for a wee and it goes all over Granny.
Danny is in big trouble with Mum!
Characters in the book:
Danny- The boy who stars in the book
Keeno – The cold dog
Suzie- The baby sister
Grandad- Story teller
Granny- Cold and grumpy
Mum- Nice but gets annoyed
I really enjoyed reading this book as it was funny. The best was the last bit when Granny stepped in dog food and got wee on. I think the book is good for children aged 6-8.
