There are lots of resources on the site for a variety of class novels. They cover novels suitable for different age groups throughout the school. The resources include teacher guides, literacy exercises, quizzes, wordsearches, vocabulary flashcards, comprehension questions, chapter-by-chapter questions and lots more. There are also suggestions of novels suitable for study in different classes in the primary school – these were suggested by teachers on the site.
Many of the resources are free resources shared by teachers through the site, while others are available for Members of the site to download. There are hundreds of pages of resources listed below:
“George’s Marvelous Medicine” by Roald Dahl is a novel for roughly 1st – 4th class, depending on the ability level of the class. It tells the story of George who is fed up with the treatment he is receiving from his grandma, who he calls “the most horrid, grizzly old grunion of a grandma ever”. He decides to cure her grouchiness by concocting a medicine for her. This is one of the largest resource packs on the site, containing 37 different resources with 281 pages of activities. It contains various work based on language, vocabulary, comprehension, writing and lots more
“Taking the Cat’s Way Home” by Jan Mark is a novel for roughly 1st/2nd class. It tells the story of Jane and her cat Furlong. There’s a resource pack on the site consisting of 160 pages of resources including a Teacher Guide, vocabulary flashcards, sequencing activities, facts about cats and lots more. “The Giggler Treatment” by Roddy Doyle is a novel for 3rd/4th class. It tells the story of Mr. Mack’s dog Rover who sells his own poo to the Gigglers, small creatures who take unexpected revenge on any adults who are perceived as treating children unfairly. This resource pack contains chapter-by-chapter worksheets containing comprehension questions, questions on vocabulary in the novel and questions based on incidents in the book. “Tom Crean’s Rabbit” By Meredith Hooper and Bert Kitchen is a picture book for probably Senior Infants/1st/2nd class. It tells a true story from Scott’s last voyage to Antarctica in 1910 on the ship called “Terra Nova”. The story is based on diaries kept by the men on the ship.The resource Pack contains 14 different resources with 100 pages of activities including vocabulary on flashcards, sorting activities, story sequencing, sorting activities and others. “The Hodgeheg” by Dick King-Smith is a novel for 3rd/4th class. It tells the story of Max the hedgehog and his quest to find the perfect place to cross the busy road in order to get to the Park and enjoy all that is there. However, this is not as easy as it would seem. “Bill’s New Frock” by Ann Fine is a novel for 2nd/3rd/4th class. It tells the story of a day in the life of Bill Simpson who wakes up one morning to discover that he is a girl and nobody in his life seems to notice. He is forced to go to school in a lovely frilly pink dress which his mother has picked out for him. “George Speaks” is a novel for 2nd/3rd/4th class. It is about a baby called George, sister to Laura and son to Mum and Dad. However, George is no ordinary small baby. “Flat Stanley” by Jeff Brown is a short novel for 1st/2nd class.
