“Eggcorns: From Bumbum Bees to Jellycopters” is a hilarious book and a fantastic play on words put together by the talented illustrator Chris Judge. What exactly are eggcorns you may ask? They are mispronounced words and phrases like hippobottomus, sleeping brush and ice plop!
Chris Judge shared a few illustrations of such eggcorns on his social media account, and asked if anyone else had heard any eggcorns that their children may have said, so he could illustrate them. He received more than 1000 replies! Shortly thereafter, O’Brien Press contacted him about making these eggcorns into a book. That is how this humorous book became published.
The book is such an enjoyable read and laughter is guaranteed. The clever illustrations capture the audience’s attention and each colourful page will put a smile on your face. The eggcorns provide great opportunities for discussion and pupils will enjoy guessing the correct phrases which can be found at the end of the book along with the names of the contributors.
