This FREE set of Tasc-Chártaí as Gaeilge is aimed at pupils in middle/senior classes. The cards are intended to be used as a fun game/task to assist in vocabulary development and in the development of working memory as Gaeilge. The pupil has to repeat the set of five words in reverse order. There are 12 cards in the pack, four per A4 page.
The teacher should clearly call out the five words on the card to the pupil. The pupil then has to memorise the words and repeat them back to the teacher in reverse order. Pupils can be taught simple strategies like the last word called out by the teacher should be the first word called out by the pupil and the middle of the five words will always stay in the middle.
When the pupils are comfortable playing the game directed by the teacher, the pupils themselves could then play the game in pairs or in groups with one pupil calling out the words.
The words on each card are loosely related – for example, they may be colour words, words of animals, fruit, clothes, food etc. These cards could be used as a memory game, as a warm-up for a Gaeilge lesson or for working with a group during Station Teaching.
It is recommended that the cards be cut out and then laminated so that they can be used again and again.
If you think that the cards are too large, you can reset your printer preferences to print out two sheets per A4 page.
