The National Sea Life Centre is located on the sea front in Bray, Co. Wicklow. Sometimes described as an “aquatic zoo”, it is home to over 1,000 creatures including Black Tip Reef Sharks, Octopus, Seahorses, Stingrays and Red-Bellied Piranha. It is a regular destination for school tours where pupils can engage in, amongst other things, quizzes, touch starfish and crabs and listen to talks about amazing discoveries in the underwater world. Tours at the centre can be curriculum linked educational tours or a Discover Primary Science and Maths programme for schools applying for an Award of Science and Maths Excellence.
Sea Life Bray has recently developed brand new, fresh, fun and interactive educational resource packs along with teacher guidelines and pupil worksheets that follow the Social, Environmental and Scientific Education (SESE) curriculum for both junior and senior cycles in primary schools. To support these activity packs Powerpoint resources are available to download as classroom teaching aids. These Powerpoints aim to inform, encourage discussion and develop pupils’ natural interest in the underwater world. All of the educational resources are based on activities and project ideas that classes can do to foster knowledge and enthusiasm about the undersea world.
Seomra Ranga is delighted to announce that the National Sea Life Centre has granted permission to allow all of these resources to be made available to visitors to the website. These will be a great addition to the bank of SESE resources on the site. I’m certain that teachers will be delighted with these resources as they contain great images and fun interactive elements. Resources are also available for both junior and senior cycle in primary school. Seomra Ranga would like to express its appreciation to Sea Life for allowing teachers free access to these resources on the site. All of these resources will be published on the site over the coming week.
