I received the book ‘Kevin’s in a Mood’ by Sarah Bowie this week. I read it with my 5 year old son Cian, he is in Junior Infants. Kevin’s in a Mood is a cute and funny story with great illustrations. My 5 year old loved the title and was enthusiastic to read the book. He also loved the illustrations and the character Kevin. He thought he looked funny!
My first instinct flicking through the book is that it looked a bit too long for reading with a 5 year old and unfortunately I was right. Cian enjoyed the book but he did ask if it was over yet about three quarters way through. Some of the phrases were repetitive and I found myself skipping bits to hold his attention.
Overall we enjoyed the story, the illustrations and the characters. For children around the age of 5 it is just a bit too drawn out and repetitive.
