“In Between Worlds” by Nicola Pierce is a book set during the famine in Ireland. Maggie is the main character, and she tells the story as an old woman living in Australia. She is from a village in Cork and she travelled to a workhouse and then to Australia. Most of the book is about her journey on the boat and the friends she made while travelling. Although the book is fiction, it is based on real stories about the famine.
In between Worlds is a good book. Although I knew about the famine, I liked hearing about it from the perspective of someone who went through. It’s an interesting story, but sad in some parts. I would recommend it to any age, but mainly 10+.
